Elevation: 213m above the sea level.

Area: Lahore has an area of 500 kms, and is the second largest city in Pakistan.

History: Lahore is widely known as the cultural centre of Pakistan since ever its accession by mughal rulers since 16th century A.D. The Mughals, built the city's most famous monuments, the Badshahi Masjid and the Alamgiri Gate next to Lahore Fort. On partition of British India in 1947 into India and Pakistan, Lahore passed into Pakistan.

Location: Lahore is located on the banks of river Ravi and near Indian border, at 31.5710 North, 74.3130 East.

Weather: Lahore enjoys 365 days of warm sunshine, with cooler evenings in winters and springs and occasional showers between November to March.

Climate: Lahore has a sub-tropical, arid climate with infrequent and irregular rainfall, amounting to less than 13 cms a year. Temperatures range from a low of 10°C to a high of 42 degrees. The average daily maximum is 10 degrees in January, rising to 47 degrees in June - July.

Time zone: Lahore is 5 hours ahead of GMT (+5 GMT)

Population: Lahore is home to over 7.5 million residents with 79% of the population employed.

Transport: Lahore offers a variety of inexpensive and efficient public transportation and you can choose between metered local taxis, intra-city and inter-city buses and private car hire services from the hotel.

Alcohol: Alcohol is only served in room of the Hotel with a special permit valid for non-Muslim residents only.

Currency and credit cards: The official currency of Pakistan is Rupee (Rs.). Rupee is equilant against the US Dollar at an average of 60.81. All banks operate from 9.00 am to 1.30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 9.00 am to 12.30 noon on Fridays and Saturdays. Currency exchange houses are open until late in the evening. All international credit and debit cards are widely accepted.

Dress code: Visitors are free to dress according to their personal choice. Dress sensibly, without wearing too much revealing clothes in public places or places of worship. Shorts and skirts are acceptable for ladies. Most Lahori men and women still choose to wear the traditional national dress. Lightweight summer cloths can be worn for most of the year, but the temperature can drop quite sharply at night during the winter.

Electricity: The standard electricity supply is 220/240 volts. American appliances may need a transformer.

Hospitality: Lahore is extremely well known for its warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage. The Lahori people are welcoming and generous in their approach to visitors.

Languages: While Urdu is the official language, English is very widely spoken, especially in business.

Photography: Photography of buildings and sights is widely acceptable. Local people, especially women, do not take kindly to being photographed without their consent. In general, it is best to avoid taking photographs (or video footage) of any individual in national dress.

Safety and Security: Lahore is a very safe city for visitors and residents alike, with minimal chances of untoward events. However, locking your car and minding your personal belongings is always recommended.

SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mela Chiragan - The Festival of Lamps or Mela Chiraghan is a very important and popular event. This is celebrated every Spring on the last Friday of March outside Shalimar Garden to honour the famous poet Shah Hussan. During the Festival, people from all walks of life gather from all over the province to actively participate in the Festival.
  • National Horse and Cattle Show  - One of the most famous annual festivals, the National Horse and Cattle Show is also held in Spring in the Fortress Stadium. During the week long activities there is a display of the finest livestock, horse and camel dances, tent pegging, colourful folk dances from all regions of Pakistan, mass-band displays and tattoo shows in the evenings.
  • Basant / Kite Flying Festival / Jashan - e - Bahar - With the advent of Spring, skies of Lahore are resplendent with all types and sizes of kites. The most of Lahorites participates in kite-flying matches to herald the coming of Spring.

PLACES OF INTEREST
The most important historical monuments of the Mughals in Lahore are the Royal Fort, the Badshahi Mosque, the Tombs of Emperor Jehangir, Empress Noor Jehan, Anarkali and Asif-Jah and the famous Shalimar Garden.

  • Royal Fort - Lahore - Although most parts of the Royal Fort were constructed around 1566 A.D. by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar the Great, there is evidence that a mud fort was in existence here in 1021 A.D. as well, when Mahmood of Ghazna invaded this area. Akbar demolished the old mud fort and constructed most of the modern Fort, as we see it today, on the old foundations.
  • Shalimar Gardens  - Shalimar Gardens have the proud privilege of being the stage of all important state receptions. Outside its walls the annual festival of Mela Chiraghan is held every year during March. Special lights on the first and second terraces of the Gardens have been installed and the area is illuminated half-an-hour after sunset.
  • Minar - e - Pakistan - Minar-e-Pakistan is a gorgeous landmark in Lahore and stands in Iqbal Park to commemorate the date (23rd March when Pakistan resolution was passed in 1940 demanding the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of this South Asia. The Minaret is a blend of Mughal and modern architecture and has been very boldly designed. It is about 60 metres tall.
  • Badshahi Mosque - The Royal or the Badshahi Mosque is across the courtyard from Alamgiri Gate of the Lahore Fort. The Mosque, which is made up entirely of red sand-stone was built by Emperor Aurangzeb, the last of the great Mughals, in a record time of two and-a-half years. Its construction was completed by 1674 A.D.
  • Golden Mosque - Golden Mosque is situated in Kashmiri Bazaar inside the old city. It was built in 1753 A.D. by Nawab Syed Bhikari Khan, Deputy Governor of Lahore. It is a remarkably beautiful mosque with three golden domes.
  • Gawal Mandi - Food Street- Taste the variety of traditional tasty food in this street.

Lahore is a veritable shopper's city! Whether it is for household appliances , electronics, carpets, spices, textiles or more.

  • Anarkali - Anarkali Bazaar is a treasure-trove, selling virtually everything from handicraft to transistor radio, tin sauce pan to refrigerator, a maze of lanes and alleys which stretch northwards from the Mall at the Central Museum end. The bazaars in the old city are the ones people dream about-tiny alleys, some of which will admit a rickshaw, a string of donkeys or carts- and pedestrians have to leap into doorways to give room. Some alleys are only possible single file.
  • Mall Road - Mall Road has the best quality of unstitched silk, cotton and printed material of all sorts. One can find shops relating need of every day here.
